May 30, 2005 Still More Trunk PatchingToday's entry covers about three days of work, and I really, really REALLY thought that I could finish all the patches today and finally move on to something else. But, alas, it was not to be. Part of the problem is that solid-appearing steel is often pockmarked by rust underneath, making it dangerously thin. So I cut out the obvious rust, start to weld in the patch, then BLAM! I blow through again and have to make a new patch to fit to the less-new-but-still-new patch next to it. I'm really sick of it. So here's what I did today, another patch on a raised boss in the trunk You know the drill:
Look at all the fresh grinding on the floor. I've probably replaced about 40% of the trunk floor with another 10-15% to go. I'm thinking I should have just cut it all out and made a new floor pan in one shot. I'd be done by now. Next up will be rebuilding the driver's side body mount, similar to what I had to do on the passenger's side. I'm going to see if Doug Seybold has a reinforcing plate in a parts car I can use, since the one on the driver's side is missing.
