Still More Trunk Patching

Today's entry covers about three days of work, and I really, really REALLY thought that I could finish all the patches today and finally move on to something else. But, alas, it was not to be. Part of the problem is that solid-appearing steel is often pockmarked by rust underneath, making it dangerously thin. So I cut out the obvious rust, start to weld in the patch, then BLAM! I blow through again and have to make a new patch to fit to the less-new-but-still-new patch next to it. I'm really sick of it.

So here's what I did today, another patch on a raised boss in the trunk You know the drill:

Cut it out...

Then weld it in and grind the welds.

Look at all the fresh grinding on the floor. I've probably replaced about 40% of the trunk floor with another 10-15% to go. I'm thinking I should have just cut it all out and made a new floor pan in one shot. I'd be done by now.

Next up will be rebuilding the driver's side body mount, similar to what I had to do on the passenger's side. I'm going to see if Doug Seybold has a reinforcing plate in a parts car I can use, since the one on the driver's side is missing.

Look at all the holes to be patched on the driver's side. I'm guessing
most of them will require patches instead of just a shot of welding.
