10, 2003 Engine Removal (part II)The next problem was that the clutch fork was not easily removed. We couldn't just slide the bellhousing off the flywheel because the fork extends through it. So we rotated the bellhousing around and I removed the clutch bolts. After that, we removed the bellhousing, clutch and clutch fork as a unit. I'll figure out how to get them apart later.
The next issue we faced was getting the engine onto the stand. The flywheel came off in the usual fashion, secured by six bolts into the crank. It doesn't weigh 60 pounds, but it's heavier than any flywheel I've hefted before. I'll get it resurfaced before reinstalling it.
Andy and I wrestled with the engine stand a little bit, but got it mounted pretty easily. Of course, we had to make hardware store trip #2 to get some bolts long enough to fit through the engine stand mounts and into the engine block. Once it was mounted, we were all amazed by the size of the engine.
And that was it. About 5 hours, including picking up and returning the cherry-picker. Again, thanks to both my father and my friend Andy--I couldn't have done it without you!
